OLYMPIA, WA - A CAPITAL CITY

Don't Miss: David and I (Jenna) ran in the Capital City Marathon (well, the Kids' Run). It was a lot of fun and very well organized. Since we finished way earlier than Dad did, we walked around the city. We've been there a lot of times because there is a lot to do. It's worth the drive, no matter what Elisha says. We really liked walking along the waterfront boardwalk. There are neat things to see including fish, fishermen, boats, carvings, statues, paintings, and more. The stores have some interesting things in them, but most are pretty expensive so we do a lot of window shopping.

Don't Bother: Trying to find a parking spot during the week. You'll just drive around and around and around and STILL have to pay for the meter. And make sure you pay because I saw a lot of meter maids giving out tickets.

Cheap Eats: The deli at the grocery store along the waterfront. Reasonable prices and really good food. There's an upstairs dining area that overlooks the water.

Things to Do :

-Olympia Children's Museum- free on the first Friday from 5-9. Fun, but the little kids will like it better than the older kids.
-Capitol Tours -A dollar for kids 6-18, $2 for adults. A lot of walking. Mostly looking at stuff, which was neat, but I'm glad we got to play in the water afterward.
-
The water fountain/sprinklers in back of the Capitol near the boardwalk. They're simple, but fun! - Walk around the bike path on the Capitol Grounds. They're lovely and interesting.
-Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge - Do you enjoy birdwatching? Nisqually is a great place to see many varieties. Check the Reserve's site for education series and special events.
